Friend me on
This poem has never been published in a magazine or book, though I have read it on stage.
We Have Forgotten
We have forgotten how our spirits breathe,
where our souls sleep. We cough and ache
and groan at one another on crowded streets,
in dimming rooms, staring at stages flooded
with coloured light, at alters and shrines
and in lines to purchase
We have muted our voices with acronyms
and slogans, let our fingers grow numb,
our lips chapped, our feet
so calloused our toes
no longer bend.
We have locked our doors and shut our blinds,
filled every space with incredible toys
and wonder why we play alone
when our list of friends
keeps getting longer.
